The University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education and Human Development hosted the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program for International Teachers in the fall of 2024. For a second straight year, Brighton Central School District was one of the local districts participating in the program.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and implemented by the International Research and Exchanges Board, the program facilitates professional development opportunities for international primary and secondary teachers selected as Fulbright recipients in their respective home countries.
The program brought 22 Fulbright Teachers from 13 countries to Rochester, where they completed coursework at the University while collaborating with local educators through field experiences in schools or a community-based workplace setting. The Fulbright Teachers, hailed from Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, Finland, Greece, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Morocco, the Philippines, Senegal, Singapore, and Uganda.
The Fulbright Teachers gave a presentation to the Board of Education on what they learned through their partnership with a Brighton teacher. They also presented a framed version of a poem they wrote about their experiences.
