Student Selection Process

TCMS screening process begins with the nomination of a student by an administrator, counselor, teacher, parent and/or self, which can occur at any time during the year. New entrants are also screened.

A link for the nomination form can be found at the bottom of this page. Submitting the form initiates the process. 

Counseling Center secretary distributes questionnaires to each of the student’s teachers and collects returned forms.

Date is set by counselor and assistant principal’s secretary to review student(s) as part of monthly RtI meetings; committee representatives are notified.

Committee representation will include at least one team teacher, an administrator, the school counselor, psychologist and Extended Studies teacher.

Records collected for screening may include:

  • Teacher recommendations
  • Achievement/Aptitude Test scores
  • Reports Cards
  • Student work samples
  • Special needs information
  • Student interview
  • Participation in similar programs

 

General criteria for the evaluation of data:

  • Score at the 95 percentile rank on standardized achievement test
  • Above average report card grades
  • Strong teacher recommendations based on characteristics of learning, creativity and motivation
  • Decision on student selection is the collective professional judgment of the committee

 

Notification about the committee’s recommendations and schedule changes will be made as needed.
