How do I know what team my child is on?

6^th Grade: Team 6-1, 6-2, 6-3

7^th Grade: Team 7-1, 7-2

8^th Grade: Team 8-1, 8-2

Teams are made up of the students' Math, English, Social Studies, and Science teachers.  Students that are in self-contained special education classes will be assigned to a team but may have different teachers depending on their individual program.

You will find what team they are on by looking at a copy of their schedule, looking up your child on Parent Portal, or contacting the school.

What is the best way to contact teachers?

Since teachers are in the classroom most of the day, you can contact teachers by email. 

You can email teachers by using the following format:

How can I meet with my child’s teachers and/or counselor?

You can set up a meeting with your child’s teachers or counselor by calling the Counseling Office and making the request.

What should I do if I am concerned about how my child is doing in a particular class?

You can contact the teacher directly (preferably through email) and talk with them about how your son/daughter is doing. You may also request a meeting with that specific teacher to discuss what strategies your child could use to help improve his/her understanding of the concepts.

What are some reasons my child might be seen by the counselor?

• Check-in meeting (with all students)
• Student-initiated meeting in regard to grades, social or emotional questions/concerns, friendship issues, or problems at home
• Counselor-initiated meeting in regard to grades, social, behavioral, or emotional questions/concerns
• Parent-initiated meeting

 How do I refer my son/daughter to the School Counselor?

You can refer your son/daughter to the counselor by calling or emailing your child’s counselor directly or by calling one of the counseling secretaries at 242-5100 x3256 or x3525.

Would I know if my son/daughter met with the School Counselor?

We try to meet with all of the students on our teams throughout the year. We do not contact parents every time we meet with a student. We would contact parents if we had any questions or concerns.  Counseling meetings with students are confidential and we may only share information if we feel your student's or another person’s safety may be jeopardized.  School Counselors follow the American School Counselors Association guidelines for confidentiality http://www.schoolcounselor.org/asca/media/asca/PositionStatements/PS_Confidentiality.pdf .

What are some important things to let my child’s counselor know?

• Changes in the home (separation/divorce, death in family, family illness, financial stressors, custody arrangements, upcoming move)
• Academic concerns
• Emotional/social/behavioral/health concerns
• Problems or questions around peer relationships
• If a student will be out for an extended period of time because of illness or vacation
