A Message from the Superintendent

Posted Date: 1/10/25 (8:00 PM)

Dear BCSD Families,

Nearly a week ago, I wrote to you about the unfathomable loss of sixth grader Annie Mancuso and her grandmother. I began by expressing that there were “no words” to describe our sadness and inability to understand this tragedy. Although that feeling remains, a week later I feel nearly as incapable of accurately describing the ways that the community has been remarkable over the past week and how grateful everyone is for the many ways that Annie’s family, friends, classmates, and educators have been supported.

I have been in touch with Annie’s family and they asked me to express their deepest gratitude. They have been so moved and touched by the overwhelming love and support in remembrance of Annie and her grandmother, Mary. Please pause on that for a moment and realize that you as a school community have provided other members of our school family, those most directly impacted, with love, support, warmth, and care during a moment when they needed it the most. There can be no greater act.

Thank you to everyone for every gesture, every hug, every act of kindness. Thank you to our emergency service providers, our mental health staff, and our teaching, administrative, and support staff. Thank you to our families and their wonderful children. It is comforting to know during the darkest moments that light is created by so many people. That will continue to be important in the days ahead.

From Annie’s family and the greater school community family, simply thank you, with love and deep appreciation.

Kevin
