Residents of the Brighton Central School District approved a $110,572,957 budget for the 2025-26 school year by a vote of 1,094 to 219. The budget received an 83% “yes” vote. This is the seventh-highest passage rate in the last 25 years. The projected tax levy increase for 2025-26 is 2.03%.
Voters also elected two board members to the Board of Education: Karen Hatch and Clayton Jones. Hatch received 1,117 votes, Jones received 1,065 votes, and Vinod Bajaj received 219 votes.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Brighton community for once again demonstrating such strong support for our schools,” Superintendent Dr. Kevin McGowan said. “The overwhelming approval of this year’s budget is a direct reflection of the incredible work our staff does every day to support, inspire, and care for our students and the value proposition that this has created for our community. We don’t take for granted the work that goes into providing an excellent experience for each student and the willingness of the community to support what it takes for that to happen.
“Congratulations as well to Karen Hatch on her re-election and to Clayton Jones on his election to the Board of Education. We wish Eleanor Oi the best and thank her for her dedicated service on the Board of Education and steadfast commitment to our community.”
